One of the most coveted, yet accessible natural wines in France. This wine comes from an organic and biodynamic vineyard in Visan, about an hour South of the other Domaine. This 2019 red is a mix of Barbera, Aglianico, Montepulciano, Cinsault, and Carignane from two sites, both with weathered, pink gravelly alluvium, very low fertility soils. It contains fewer tannins than seen since before the California drought, instead delivering high-toned fruit notes and a delicate mouthfeel. Fermented with native yeasts at cool temperatures in stainless steel, then aged in neutral barrels for five months with no sulfur added. The aroma features some bready malt and noble hops. This is a balanced and easy-drinking lager, light and not too boozy at 5.2% ABV. The malts add notes of cereal and bread crust, while the hops contribute touches of grass, herbs and a late bitter bite. There is a hint of funky barnyard flavor from the initial stay in the coolship, but it is very mild compared to the big sour/Brett flavors that come with many coolship inoculated ales.
