When prohibition outlawed the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages in 1920, many enterprising residents of a small town in iowa chose to become outlaws – producing a high caliber and much sought-after whiskey known as templeton rye, or “the good stuff” to those in the know. Produced from the original prohibition era recipe and aged in charred new oak barrels, templeton rye provides a smooth finish and a clean getaway.
Only dedication to the entire process can achieve the proper balance that gives templeton rye its great rye character and surprisingly smooth finish that jim murray of the whiskey bibledescribed as "a huge, unmistakable rye. "
The domaine’s 2010 bourgogne is a gorgeous wine at this level. It captures all of the leflaive signatures in a remarkably pure, crystalline interpretation of the year. Bright, saline notes frame the fruit in this precise, jewel of a wine. Readers will not want to miss this gem. If there is a relatively affordable entry-level 2010 from a top-notch domaine that captures the greatness of the vintage, this is it. Anticipated maturity: 2012+.
The 2010 puligny-montrachet pucelles is a totally complete wine. It brings together the expressive bouquet and minerality of combettes with some of the expressive fruit of the folatieres. Vivid and multi-dimensional in the glass, the pucelles wraps around the palate with serious intensity. Citrus, white flowers and green pears linger on the highly nuanced, refined finish. Today, though, the 2010 is incredibly tight. Its pedigree is impossible to miss. Leflaive’s pucelles is easily one of the highlights of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2015+.
The 2010 puligny-montrachet clavoillons fleshes out beautifully in the glass with layers of expressive, textured fruit. This is one of the more open, forward wines in the lineup. It should drink nicely pretty much upon release. Yellow stone fruits, flowers and a hint of spice wraps around the soft, enveloping finish, where the minerality of the vintage emerges with pretty, finely-knit nuances. Anticipated maturity: 2014+.

Things go up a notch or two with the 2010 bienvenues-batard-montrachet, which appears to hover on the palate with the grace of a ballerina. The bienvenues is all about weightless elegance and implied structure, but it is all there in the glass. At times a bit intellectual, the bienvenues is nevertheless immensely appealing. Layers of soft, perfumed fruit flow effortlessly to the nuanced, feminine finish. A hint of floral honey and almonds lingers on the palate. I can’t wait to see how this ages. Anticipated maturity: 2020+.

"Tired of talking my friends into pit stops at beer bars before heading out — in fear of having to drink bland lager all night — i set out to craft an ale that would act as companion throughout the evening. Fit for beer geeks and party freaks alike, leon is whole-cone hopped and fermented dry using champagne yeast. The yeast and the hops in combination with a simple malt bill provides the beer with a quality of being rich in taste yet refreshing. Drink it chilled out of a wine glass or just straight out of the bottle. Skål! " - Brewery

"Somewhere between sense and sensibility this wit was of wisdom and wag. Fresh as a daisy, bitter to the end and twisted with kiwi hops and american reason. Perhaps you'll find it more ingenious than funny, consider that mission accomplished. As we say - better at witty wit than wit witty. " - Label

"The 2009 cabernet sauvignon is a big, dramatic wine endowed with tremendous richness and power. A large-scaled, dramatic wine, the 2009 cabernet sweeps across the palate with generous, deeply resonant fruit. This is shaping up to be another beauty from david ramey. The 2009 is 100% cabernet sauvignon from lamoreaux, desantis, j. davies and somerston. Drink: 2014-2021. " 93-95/100 the wine advocate
"You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? [Pause] these go to eleven. " - Nigel tufnel, this is spinal tap
With its classic recipe and impeccable craftmanship, reverb imperial pilsner echoes our collaboration number 1 imperial pilsner, produced in 2009 when with esteemed orval brewmaster jean-marie rock. Like its predecessor, this new summer seasonal release is a study in delicately balanced contrasts. A strakly simple recipe, using only pilsner malt and saaz hops, combined with a painstakingly complex brewing process, produce a beer of subtle elegance. The venerable technique of "first wort hopping," -- adding hops at the beginning of the boil and allowing them to steep for a much longer time---gives the beer a refined hop aroma and flavor. Pilsner malt makes a clear yet restrained statement up front, answered by try steady, harmonious hum of hop bitterness, traces of which linger in the dry, crisp finish. Our reverb imperial pilsner pairs melodiously with grilled seafood or chicken, or a wide variety of cheeses. Really, though, it goes great with whatever is being served backstate.

This is our first bottling from this promising site that is planted at the highest elevation in the region, hence the “crown of santa rita”. Planted at 600 to 1000 feet, rita’s crown is planted on diatomaceous soils, which are fossilized seashells and hallmarks of the appellation. This soil creates a mineral thread in the wines while adding more stress to the vines concentrating the fruit flavors. Our sections are south facing receiving ample sun providing slightly riper and juicier fruit.
We feel privileged to have access to this excellent and historic site in the santa maria valley. Our section, block w, was planted in 1973 and is self-rooted wente selection on alluvial soil, loam and river silt and is one of the oldest vineyards in the county. Owned and farmed by the miller family, bien nacido (meaning “good birth” in spanish) has long supplied fruit to some of the best producers in california. This bottling yields core citrus aromas of lemon and kumquat, gingerbread spice and a charming rusticity. The wine is juicy with a beautiful presence and will offer up several years of good drinking.
This wine showcases all the exuberance of santa rita hills and is a great entry level pinot noir. It is a blend of our vineyard holdings in the santa rita hills with over half the fruit from 40 year-old vines at the sanford and benedict vineyard with the rest coming from our sections and younger vines at rita’s crown and bent rock. It has bright, shiny, crunchy black raspberry fruit with great aromatic lift of fruit, flowers and cola spice.
We feel fortunate to have an opportunity to work with the fruit from this historic vineyard in the santa maria valley. Our fruit comes from block 1, one of the original 1973 plantings, and is composed of selections from mount eden and pommard. This wine has a broad, enticing nose dominated by dark cherry and cola. It is sweet on the attack with a juicy, structured, umami like backbone. There is ample richness and complexity to also handle a wider array of cuisine.
Planted in 1971, sanford and benedict is the oldest chardonnay and pinot noir vineyard in santa barbara county, and one of the most iconic vineyards in california. Its north-facing location at the epicenter of the santa rita hills appellation allows the grapes to ripen perfectly in the cool and foggy weather. The diatomaceous soil delivers smaller yields and clusters. Due to the vine age and own-root system, have an added intensity and complexity
Planted in 1971 by the legendary and pioneering richard sanford, this site represents the oldest pinot noir plantings in all of santa barbara county and is largely synonymous with the creation of the santa rita hills appellation. Our sections both come from the oldest blocks (41 year old vines) where the vine trunks are gnarled producing small amounts of beautifully graceful, concentrated and textured fruit
Crown valley distilling has produced a cuttingly fragrant; double distilled, malt whiskey. Simialr to whiskey produced by bootleggers during prohibition using sugar water and corn feed, but with a twist of elegance, our spirit is made from a blend of rye and barley, rendering a uniquely raw and chewy sweetness. Our malt whiskey is certain to appeal to the sophisticated connoisseur. Served neat with a splash of water or on the rocks, our whiskey signifies a sense of the "good old days" in every glass.
