rivercene was constructed by captain joseph b. kinney, who ran a line of 21 sternwheelers up and down the missouri river, between 1864 and 1869 and is the earliest example of second empire or baroque revival this far west.
this beautiful hand-carved stairway, hewn by european artisans of the finest mahogany, cypress and walnut, has been the place where many memories were made-brides and debutantes presented, ladies in long flowing dresses greeting their gentleman-callers-and katy trail bikers retiring for a restful night, or a relaxing whirlpool bath.
