the granville suite includes a private sitting room. it is believed that this was the master suite occupied by mr. and mrs. sheldon in the early 1900's. the sitting room served as mrs. sheldon's dressing room. interesting items from the granville area are placed about the suite.
the saratoga room has original items from the saratoga race course and saratoga casinos that had their heyday in the early 1900's. there is artwork of the race course by jenness cortez, a prominent saratoga artist.
the arlington room has the subtle theme of norman rockwell's work. while painting for the saturday evening post he lived in nearby arlington, vermont. a very special print of "the babysitter" is signed by our friend, arlington native lucille towne halton, who was rockwell's model for the babysitter.
the eagle bridge room has a subtle collection of items related to the works of grandma moses who lived in nearby eagle bridge. a selection of paintings, books and knickknacks are to be found throughout the room. marianne has long held dear her friend, nancy moses alexander, the great-granddaughter of grandma moses.
the champlain room features the lake champlain region with items such as a painting of lake champlain with a traditional adirondack chair in the foreground. you will also find a book about the ticonderoga, a steamboat which was launched in 1906, the same year that the mansion was built. the ship sailed lake champlain until 1953 and now resides at the shelburne museum in burlington, vermont.
